Work Hours Calculator

Work Hours Calculator

The Work Hours Calculator helps you accurately calculate total hours, time differences, overtime, and break deductions for employees, freelancers, machinery rentals, equipment usage, projects, and other time-based activities. Fast, simple, and easy to use for personal and business needs.

Very Important: Pick 24-hour or 12-hour using the "Time Format" switch before you enter times. 24-hour counts a full day as one cycle (e.g. 12:30 → 1:30 = 13 hours). 12-hour counts each 12-hour half-day as one cycle (e.g. 12:30 → 1:30 = 1 hour). Switching the format automatically recalculates every entry already on the page.

© Hourly Charge/Wage Ledger. All calculations happen locally in your browser — no data is uploaded anywhere. Click Start to log the current time into the next open row, and Stop to log the finish time for the running row; you can still edit any time by hand or use "+ Add Row" for manual entries. The "Hours" column shows the gap in clock notation (e.g. "1:55" means 1 hour 55 minutes) so it reads the way a time difference naturally would; hover any Hours value to see its exact decimal-hours equivalent, which is what's actually multiplied by the rate to calculate the Amount column and all totals below. Use the "Time format" switch above to choose how the hour gap is calculated: 24-hour mode treats a full day (24 hours) as one cycle, so an end time earlier than the start time is counted as running into the next day (e.g. 12:30 to 1:30 = 13 hours). 12-hour mode treats each 12-hour half-day as one cycle instead, so the same times are counted as 1 hour. Whenever a row's end time wraps past its cycle this way, a small tag appears next to that row's hours so you can confirm it was intentional. Switching the format recalculates every row already entered. (Note: some browsers, notably Firefox, may not fully honor the AM/PM vs 24-hour on-screen display for the time picker itself, though the calculation above always follows your selected format.) Add one ledger per employee or customer to calculate several people's or machinery-rental hours and pay/charges for the same period at once. Your entries save to this device as you type and again every 10 minutes automatically; use "Save Ledger File" for a portable backup you can reopen later or move to another device with "Load Ledger File." On Chrome and Edge, the save buttons let you pick exactly where each file goes; other browsers save to your default Downloads folder.
